Sun Products jobs in Wilton moving to Stamford

Henkel Consumer Goods Inc., which recently purchased Sun Products, headquartered in Wilton, announced it has leased 135,000 square feet of office space at 200 Elm Street in downtown Stamford. It will begin relocating its operations there, which includes the Sun Products positions and Henkel’s workforce in Arizona, in the second quarter of 2017. The process is expected to take until the first quarter of 2018.

In a statement, Jens-Martin Schwaerzler, president of Henkel Consumer Goods Inc. North America, said, “We are pleased to be able to provide our employees with a work space in a dynamic city that offers the best of urban culture combined with the convenience of easy transportation and a high quality of life. Our new facility at 200 Elm Street will showcase a forward-thinking office design, fostering a high level of creativity and collaboration, which are fundamental for our growth and success as a thriving consumer goods business.”

The move to Stamford is a $50 million initiative that will create a large number of new jobs, the company statement said, and the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development is providing financial support in the form of $20 million in forgivable loans through the First Five Plus program.

To avoid repaying $15 million of the loan, Henkel must retain 678 jobs and create 200 new ones, which must be retained for at least two years. If an additional 66 jobs are created within three years and retained for two years, the remaining $5 million would be forgiven.

The company also may be eligible for up to $5 million in tax credits through the Urban and Industrial Sites Reinvestment program.

Henkel announced its acquisition of Sun Products in September. Sun Products manufactures and markets well-known household brands all®, Sun®, and Snuggle®. Henkel said this move positions it as a strong No. 2 in the North American laundry segment.
