Site of new medical center will undergo $9 million renovation

Plans to renovate the building at 241 Danbury Road into a state-of-the-art specialized medical center are underway.
According to Sean McDonnell, U.S. lead for the Affinity Group of Avison Young, the new medical center will “address specific ailments with the highest trained professionals and the most up-to-date equipment available.”
Cambridge Hanover, an industrial real estate investment firm in New Canaan, is planning to open the facility across from Wilton Town Hall next year.
McDonnell told The Bulletin the project “has been brewing for about nine months now.”
In a Sept. 22 press release, McDonnell said patients will have access to “high-level specialists in a modern facility that is both centrally located and easily accessible.”
Because it will be situated in the center of Wilton, towns like Ridgefield, Weston, New Canaan, Westport, and Norwalk will also have access to the medical services provided by an assemblage of health care professionals at the new center.
“Based on current interest,” McDonnell said, the facility will house “anywhere from six to 12 individual providers, but each with multi-specialty within their group.”

The site

Vacant for more than 15 years, the six-acre site of the future medical facility is in a professionally landscaped environment with convenient parking. The property was appraised in 2014 for $6.9 million and assessed at $4.9 million. Taxes total $131,000 per year.
The existing 40,000-square-foot building will need to be completely renovated — the rough estimates of which, McDonnell told The Bulletin, are around $9 million.
McDonnell said “everything” about the building will need to be changed.
“The only thing being salvaged is the infrastructure,” he said. “New roof, new mechanicals, new skin, complete gut and renovation of the interior, as well as a brand-new site architecturally landscaped to keep with the traditional New England feel of Wilton.”
McDonnell said renovations are “slated to start by the end of the year.”
The new medical center is scheduled to open in June 2016.
