P&Z postpone Hoffman Landscaping vote until March 24

Planning & Zoning commissioners will wait until next week to vote on a special permit application submitted by Hoffman Landscaping, a business at 647 and 652 Danbury Road.

Hoffman requested permission to expand its work yard into property owned by the Connecticut Department of Transportation behind the building that currently houses Calico Corners at 639 Danbury Road.

The owners of the Calico Corners building initially appealed the commission to allow the permit only after applying certain restrictions, as they believed the increased size of the work yard would have a negative impact on their tenant’s business.

After taking a straw poll that showed the majority of commissioners in favor of the application without special conditions, Chairman Chris Hulse instructed zoning staff to prepare a resolution supporting the application for the board’s next meeting.

Commissioners voted unanimously to grant permission for Fairfield Chemical Carriers to erect alternate signage on its building at 21 River Road.

The company requested the right to install extra signage because clients and customers were having a difficult time finding the entrance to the office, a representative of the company said.
