Nancy Dolnier of Village Market is Business Person of the Year

She makes for a heck of a catered affair, and she’s the Wilton Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year.

Nancy Dolnier, well known in town as the longtime manager of the Village Market, accepted the honor of being named Business Person of the Year Sept. 21 in an evening event at Rolling Hills Country Club.

“It’s a lovely honor. I don’t know why they chose me, but it is a lovely honor,” said Dolnier, who has managed the Village Market 25 years. She began her career there in 1973, starting as a cashier.

“I worked my way up,” she said of her years at the popular food stop. That included 1986, when she was judged best Halloween-costumed employee for dressing as a bottle of Perrier water.

The Chamber event drew dozens of business people from Wilton for finger foods and cocktails in a cozy banquet room while a classical guitarist played pop standards.

Carol Johnson, Wilton chamber board vice president and representative of Fairfield County Bank, made the introduction.

”For the past 40 years, she has nourished all of us, both literally and figuratively. She always greets us with a warm and caring smile, and she is always willing to help us with whatever it is we may need,” Johnson said of Dolnier.

“She is generous with her time, her talents, and her resources. Her philanthropy embodies the community spirit that makes our town so special. To quote Neil Young, she has a ‘Heart of Gold.’ So, it is eminently appropriate that we honor her and to thank her for all that she does, for all that she represents, and for epitomizing all of the virtues of a true community leader.”

In addition to the Business Person of the Year, the Chamber recognized:

  • Erica Malhotra, owner of “B” Chic, on her 10th anniversary.

  • Christine Titus, of Conservatory of Dance, 25 years in Wilton and 10 years under her direction..

  • Robin Roscillo for outstanding volunteerism.

  • Greg Rodiger and Susan Schaefer for their terms completed on the Board of Directors.

Bankwell was event sponsor and Gregory and Adams supporting sponsor.
