Haven Hot Chicken, Avelo airlines teaming up to send contest winner to Nashville

You don't have to fly to Nashville to get hot chicken, but a lucky contest winner will soon get the opportunity to travel to the Music City.

Haven Hot Chicken, New Haven's first dedicated Nashville hot chicken restaurant, has teamed up with Avelo Airlines, based out of Tweed-New Haven Airport. The businesses will jointly run a month-long social media contest to give away two tickets for the inaugural nonstop round-trip flight from New Haven to Nashville on May 6.

The contest winner will win a complimentary flight for two, and a three-night hotel stay in Nashville.

To enter the contest, participants must follow both @havenhotchicken and @aveloair on Instagram, and like all three @havenhotchicken contest posts on March 30,  April 8 and April 15. They must tag a friend in the comments, and every tagged friend is an additional entry.

Haven Hot Chicken will choose a winner at random to be announced on April 22.

Avelo Airlines recently marked its 1,000th flight out of Tweed-New Haven. The airline currently flies to six destinations in Florida — Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Fort Myers and Sarasota-Bradenton —  and will add four additional destinations (Nashville; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Charleston, S.C.; and Savannah, Ga.-Hilton Head, S.C.) on May 6.

On May 26, Avelo will add flights from Tweed to Chicago’s Midway International Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Haven Hot Chicken opened in October 2020 at 21 Whitney Ave. in New Haven, with chicken and “not-chicken” (fried cauliflower) in five different spice levels. Menu items include sandwiches, tenders and chicken and waffles, and sides like fries, creamy vinegar slaw, garlic-dill pickles, mac and cheese and banana pudding. A snack list features sliders and fried cauliflower nuggets.

Haven's founders Jason Sobocinski, Rob LaTronica, Craig Sklar and Etkin Tekin are planning a second location in Orange, to open later this year at 550 Boston Post Road.
