\u2014Jeannette Ross photosThousands of toys from Wilton are on their way to area children in need following this year\u2019s Toys for Tots campaign. About a dozen volunteers gathered at fire headquarters on Friday to load a U-Haul truck with about 1,000 toys that was bound to the Marine Corps League of Norwalk. They were collected at Wilton\u2019s two firehouses, police headquarters, Bright Horizons, Our Lady of Fatima, and Pinocchio Pizza. A second collection of toys from South Wilton \u2014 some 800 \u2014 was also delivered to Norwalk and toys collected from other locations in Wilton were delivered to the marines in Ridgefield. When Peter Havens, the Toys for Tots coordinator for Norwalk, Wilton and Fairfield drove up with the truck he was met by volunteers ready to fill it: Bright Horizons director Joey Mancuso Viscuso, education coordinator Taylor Keating, Bright Horizon teachers Karen DeMattio and Mellie Markovic, Sean McNeil of the Ridgefield marines, Post 86 Adjutant Tom Moore, Deputy Fire Marshal Kevin Plank, Lt. Jeff Locher, firefighters Gary Mandel, Glenn Johnson, and Bryan Montgomery, and Capt. Brian Elliott.
