During the weekend of April 1-2, the Wilton Y Gymnastics Team hosted the 2017 Connecticut State Gymnastics Championships. Almost 500 gymnasts competed in Wilton during the two-day event. In a lengthy and highly emotional meet, with very tough judging, the gymnasts rallied to perform and support one another, displaying the heart and spirit of true competitors. Overall, the Levels 3 and 5 teams placed second all-around, with Level 5 narrowly missing the championship title by four-tenths of a point. The Level 4 team placed sixth all-around, Level 6 placed fourth all-around, and Level 7 placed third all-around, just .375 from the championship title. Level 3 For Age 9 Senior, Cailyn Cruickshank scored a 9.7 on floor to take the bronze medal. For Age 10 Senior, Kaelyn Talisse was the second place all-around champion, placing second on bars (9.075) and beam (8.95), and fourth on floor (9.35) and vault (9.3). Teagan Stengrim was fourth in the all-around, placing fifth on vault (9.05) and beam, and scoring 9.225 on floor. For Age 11, the largest group of the competition, Jenny Von Bartheld rose to the occasion and was crowned all-around champion. She placed first on bars (9.625) and beam (9.375), and third on floor (9.475) and vault (9.150). Geneva Southworth was the silver champion, placing second on bars (9.025), third on vault (9.15), fourth on beam (8.8) and scoring 9.35 on floor. Ella Mancuso took home the bronze all-around trophy, placing third on beam (9.0) and vault (9.15), and fifth on floor (9.375). Isabella Silverstein was fifth in the all-around, winning gold on vault (9.20), and scoring 9.35 on floor. Elizabeth Fahey scored 9.175 on vault (second) and 9.375 on floor (9.375), and Sophia Vitti placed second on floor (9.5) and fifth on bars. Level 4 For Ages 8-9, Alyssa Mariani was second on bars (8.950) and third on floor (9.05). \u00a0 For Age 12, Samantha Bauer placed fifth on vault. For Ages 13-over, Isabella Giordano won the fourth all-around trophy, placing third on floor (8.85) and vault, fourth on beam, and fifth on bars. Simona Gheorghe was fifth in the all-around, placing third on beam and vault, and fourth on bars. Level 5 For Ages 10-11, Ashley Umhoefer took home third in the all-around, placing first on floor (9.65) with a gorgeous routine, second on vault (9.45), and fourth on beam and bars (both with 8.8). \u00a0 For Age 12, the title of all-around champion once again went to Alyson Scheurkogel, coming in first on beam (8.7) and bars (8.725), and fifth on vault (9.0) and floor. Donna Stepnowsky earned the third place all-around trophy, with second on bars and third on floor (8.775). Chloe Jureller was the uncontested floor champion with 9.425 (first place) and scored 9.175 on vault to finish second. Grace Condon placed fourth on floor and fifth on beam. For Ages 13-over, Ava Walker was beam champion, and Michaela Kane placed second on bars (8.825) and fifth on vault (8.7). \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Level 6 For Age 13, Emilia Riina scored a 9.0 on vault and Peyton Gildersleeve placed third on vault with a 9.2. For Age 14, Isabella Jureller won the silver all-around trophy, placing first on vault (9.0), and second on bars, beam and floor (9.0). Kathryn Walsh took home fourth in the all-around, with third-place finishes on vault (8.75) and bars, and fourth-place finishes on beam and floor (8.8). For Ages 15-over, Jenna Smeriglio placed fifth in the all-around, with fourth on vault and bars, and fifth on beam and floor. Level 7 For Ages 10-12, Sarah Cross took fourth in the all-around, placing first on bars (9.35) and floor (9.55) with beautiful routines, and second on vault (9.25). Olivia Mannino placed fourth on floor and Mia Karlehag scored 9.175 on vault. For Ages 13-14, Emma Daugherty placed third on bars, fourth on beam, fifth on vault (9.05) and took home the fourth-place all-around trophy. Sarah Collias took the bronze on vault with 9.25. For Ages 15-17, Kate Ginsberg was third in the all-around, and was second on vault and floor (both with 9.2), and third on bars. Alyssa Jarrett placed fifth in the all-around, finishing second on bars, and fifth on vault, beam and floor.
