Medicare update

Now’s the time to start thinking about Medicare, Thursday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. Representatives from the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging will present information regarding updates in the Medicare program for 2013. Computer courses

Getting Around The Internet: Age 50+ is an introduction to use of the Internet. It begins with an overview followed by the concepts and terminology needed to get you “surfing the web” for specific information and fun. Use of the mouse and knowledge of the keyboard is required. Students learn to use Google and Yahoo effectively to search for and download information and pictures. Also covers attaching images and documents to email (Yahoo), managing favorites, save and print. Taught by Andrea Ragusa; Oct. 3, 9:30 to 11:30; $20. Beyond Beginners: a course on Word 2007 will explore the Word Window, Office Button, Terminology, Ribbon Organization, Quick Access Toolbar, Document Views, plus commonly used features in Word. Taught by Catherine Myers; Oct. 16 and 18, 9:30 to 11:30; $30.

Basic Excel introduces the basics of this popular spreadsheet program including essential vocabulary, concepts and features. Taught by Lizabeth Doty; Oct. 19, 9:30 to 11:30; $25.

Weather

The Weather Warriors: Those that brave nature’s fury — a one-hour program by meteorologist Art Horn will take place on Oct. 3 at 12:45, following the weekly Wednesday luncheon at Ogden House, 100 River Road. It will highlight many of the jobs people do while fighting the weather at the same time. These are the people whose jobs are out in all kinds of dangerous and rapidly changing weather and who risk their lives every day, depending on what Mother Nature throws at them. From commercial fishermen to pilots, big rig truckers, high rise window washers, farmers, forest fire fighters, construction workers, hurricane hunters and many more.
