Senior Center News: Assistance is available for heating bills
The Wilton Social Services Department is available to help you apply for assistance with your heating bills. Income guidelines for eligibility state that a single individual may earn no more than $31,863; a couple’s maximum income may not exceed $41,667. Income includes wages, Social Security, pension, rental income, child support and interest. Homeowners must have less than $10,000 in savings including IRAs and renters less than $7,000. The Pre-Holiday Wellness Seminar, Holiday Joy, will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 12:30 to 1:15 at Ogden House, 100 River Road. The program will be led by Judy Klinger, an occupational therapist for the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association (RVNA).
This holiday seminar focuses on creative ways to enjoy the holiday season as well as everyday life with serenity, good health, adequate rest and exercise, proper nutrition and greater joy. Ideas and samples of gifts that are helpful for one’s well-being, gentle on the planet and the wallet, and in some cases allow one to give back to worthwhile causes will be highlighted.
“Topics include ways of filling the season with new traditions that reduce stress through the holidays and into the New Year, with special awareness for individuals experiencing major changes in their lives,” Ms. Klinger said. She will provide a free hand-out of holiday health tips, gift sources, ideas and recipes.

New bridge groups
Two new bridge groups are forming at the senior center. If you would like to play, please call the contact person. Monday Bridge from 1 to 4, will be organized by Nerina Klobas, 203-210-5624. Chicago Bridge will be organized by Dorothy Wright, 203-762-8567, and take place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.
Additional bridge groups playing at the senior center are: Duplicate Bridge, first Wednesday of the month, organized by Lois Bruce, 203-762-5818; Duplicate Bridge, third Tuesday of the month, organized by Maureen Turnier, 203-762-9386; Contract Bridge, every Friday, organized by Eleanor Mihailidis, 203-762-8720; Drop-in Duplicate Bridge, every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday) of the month, supervised by Dan DeVlieg ($5), 203-834-6240; Beginner Bridge Lessons, Friday afternoon for eight weeks, taught by Dan DeVlieg ($75), 203-834-6240.
All activities take place at the senior center unless otherwise specified.
