On Thursday, Oct. 31, the senior center will host a Halloween Luncheon and Bingo beginning at noon. Come in your favorite costume and enjoy the fun. Don’t have a costume? Something orange is required for admission. Space is limited; reservations required. Lunch is $3. Call the senior center 203-834-6240 to place a reservation.
This exciting and innovative movement method is designed to relieve pain, exercise your brain and teach you how you can move with greater comfort, ease, and fluidity. The first session takes place on Friday, Nov. 1, from 10 to 11 at the senior center. There is a $5 drop-in fee for each session. The lessons are gentle and deceptively simple, yet they will challenge you to question your assumptions and change your perception of your own abilities.
Do you limit yourself without even knowing it? Do other people try to tell you how you feel? It’s time to take charge of your own comfort and discard the movement patterns that hold you back. You are the only person living in your body, so why not make it a home you enjoy!
Instructor Cathy Paine, M.A., GCFT is an award-winning professional dancer/choreographer. For over 35 years, she danced in the U.S., England, Germany, and Hong Kong. A movement coach with a master’s degree from UCLA and a Guild-Certified Feldenkrais Teacher®, Ms. Paine has taught on the faculty at the University of Maryland, Kenyon College, and Mary Washington University.
She discovered the Feldenkrais Method® while searching for relief from arthritis pain in her hip; she credits the work for helping her out of pain and into the last and most creative decade of her performing career. She has been a certified Feldenkrais practitioner since 1997, specializing in working with performing artists, athletes and seniors.
Open enrollment for Medicare Part D ends Dec. 7. On Thursday, Nov. 7, representatives from the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging will be at the senior center meeting with individuals regarding the Medicare Part D prescription drug program.
Appointments are available for any Medicare beneficiary who has Medicare Part A or Part B or both. Schedule an appointment through Sharon Powers, 203-834-6238.
A chess club will meet Mondays at 1:30 in the Game Room. Come and join Ed Steiner, no matter what your level of play. Information: call Ed at 203-722-8443 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Lessons for the player with very little or no bridge experience will be offered Fridays beginning Nov. 1, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., $75 for the eight-week series. Reservations required. Class size limited.
This class presented by the Wilton Family Y is offered on Mondays at 9:15, and Thursdays at 9; $3 drop-in fee per class. The hour-long class includes 30 minutes of endurance-type activity and specific strengthening exercises for legs, trunk, arms and shoulders. The class is taught by Laura Mars and Leslie Hinshaw, instructors at the Wilton Y.
Take your pick of Tuesdays from 11 to noon or Thursdays from 10 to 11 or both. There is a $3 drop-in fee per class conducted by Denise O’Hearn, owner of Vibrant Moves in Wilton. This class will warm up all the joints of your body as well as stretch and strengthen your muscles.
Debbie Dong of Meridians Eastern Health Alternatives teaches this class on Wednesdays from 9:45 to 10:45. There is a $3 drop-in fee per class. The lessons are taught in easy-to-absorb, effective, short sets of motions appropriate for any age. Tai chi has been shown to prevent falls and improve the daily functioning of seniors.
