League of Women Voters: Nobody Told Me That

A primary in August?  What party and for which races?

On Aug. 12, 2014, Connecticut registered Republican voters will have the opportunity to cast their primary ballots for governor, lieutenant governor and comptroller. There will not be a primary for the Democratic party.

Who is on the ballot for governor, lieutenant governor, and comptroller?

The Republican Party candidates for the office of governor are Thomas C. Foley (endorsed) and John P. McKinney (challenger). Running for lieutenant governor are endorsed candidate Penny Bacchiochi and challengers Heather Somers and David M. Walker. Running for comptroller are endorsed candidate Sharon J. McLaughlin and challenger Angel Cadena.

Who is eligible to vote in the primary?

Only enrolled Republicans may vote in the primary. If you are not yet registered to vote, or if you are an unaffiliated voter who has not been a member of any other party for 90 days, there is still time to register, enroll, and vote in the Republican party’s primary. New voters and unaffiliated voters may submit a mail-in voter registration application by Aug. 7, 2014 (postmarked) or Aug. 11, 2014 at noon, in person. Call the registrars’ office for more details at 563-0111.

Can I vote by absentee ballot?

Absentee ballots are available in the town clerk’s office, Wilton Town Hall. The office is open from 8:30 a.m.  until to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Where will the primaries be held?

All three polling places will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. District 1 votes at Wilton High School (Clune Center Lobby), District 2 votes at Cider Mill School, and District 3 votes at the Middlebrook School cafeteria.
