Shifrin leads Wilton boys hoop team to fourth straight win

It’s been a long time since the Wilton High boys basketball team has been four games over .500.

But following a 58-43 victory over host Trumbull on Friday night that’s exactly where the Warriors are.

Wilton took a 31-25 lead into the halftime break and then pulled away in the second half for its fourth straight win, which boosted the Warriors’ record to 9-5 overall and 7-5 in the conference.

The Warriors are currently tied with Staples for the seventh spot in the FCIAC overall standings. Wilton will travel to Westport to face Staples on Tuesday night.

Sophomore Matt Shifrin nailed five three-pointers on his way to a game-high 17 points to lead the Warriors.

Weston Wilbur had a well-rounded game with 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Eric Houska had nine points, and Olandi LeGrand contributed 14 rebounds.
