Board of Education approves salaries

Assistant superintendent of special services receives largest raise


On June 26, the Board of Education approved the salaries of 23 school administrators for the new fiscal year.

Wilton’s new assistant superintendent of special services, Ann Paul, received the largest raise of all school administrators for the 2014-15 school year, seeing her annual salary rise nearly $24,000.

Ms. Paul’s $23,993 raise bumped her yearly salary from $161,007 to $185,000.

Technology Director Mathew Hepfer received the second largest raise at $7,194, increasing his salary from $134,905 to $142,099.

With a $6,268 salary increase, the third highest raise went to Assistant Elementary School Principal Jeremy Cross, who now receives a salary of $126,838.

With a $199,000 salary, Superintendent Kevin Smith is the top-paid school district employee, followed by Ms. Paul.

Middle School Dean Damien Whalen received the lowest raise — $1,833 — and is the lowest-paid school administrator, with a $121,106 salary.

What follows are all 23 approved administrator salaries for the 2014-15 year:

  • Superintendent Kevin Smith: $199,000 salary.
  • Assistant Superintendent of Special Services Ann Paul: $185,000 salary, $23,993 raise.
  • Assistant Superintendent Charles Smith: $169,950 salary, $4,950 raise.
  • Wilton High Principal Robert O’Donnell: $166,240 salary, $4,240 raise.
  • Miller-Driscoll Principal Cheryl Jensen-Gerner: $159,374 salary, $3,341 raise.
  • Middlebrook Principal Maria Coleman: $158,405 salary, $4,443 raise.
  • Cider Mill Principal Jennifer Mitchell: $155,784 salary, $3,784 raise.
  • Human Resources Director Susan Paley: $155,000 salary.
  • Finance Director Ken Post: $154,666 salary, $4,505 raise.
  • Associate High School Principal Rich Sanzo: $146,395 salary, $4,105 raise.
  • Assistant High School Principal Linda Lyall: $143,552 salary, $2,658 raise.
  • Technology Director Mathew Hepfer: $142,099 salary, $7,194 raise.
  • Middlebrook Dean Nancy Hasenauer: $141,905 salary, $1,957 raise.
  • Assistant Special Education Director Heidi Carlin: $141,705 salary, $2,808 raise.
  • Middlebrook Dean Jory Higgins: $141,605 salary, $2,102 raise.
  • Preschool Director Fred Rapcznski: $139,364 salary, $2,194 raise.
  • Athletic Director Chris McDougal: $137,918 salary, $3,951 raise.
  • Assistant High School Principal Don Schels: $135,774 salary, $4,644 raise.
  • Cider Mill Assistant Principal Catherine O’Keefe: $129,897 salary, $3,467 raise.
  • Miller-Driscoll Assistant Principal Sheelah Brown: $129,033 salary, $3,890 raise.
  • Cider Mill Assistant Principal Ellen Tuckner: $128,213 salary, $4,290 raise.
  • Miller-Driscoll Assistant Principal Jeremy Cross: $126,838 salary, $6,268 raise.
  • Middlebrook Dean Damien Whalen: $121,106 salary, $1,833 raise.

Administrators contract

Administrative salary ranges start at 90% of the maximum salaries, according to the Wilton Administrators and Supervisors Association contract, which expires June 30, 2016.

Newly hired administrators — like Human Resources Director Susan Paley — are to be placed within the district’s set salary range, according to the contract. From there, administrators are to advance within the range and meet maximum salary by the beginning of the fifth year, as follows:

  • 92.5% of the maximum in the second year of employment.
  • 95% of the maximum in the third year.
  • 97.5% of the maximum in the fourth year.

According to the administrators’ contract, the Board of Education has the right to advance administrators through the range more quickly.

The maximum salaries for each administrative and supervisor position during the 2014-15 year are as follows:

  • High school principal: $172,290.
  • Middle school principal: $164,981.
  • Elementary school principal: $163,716.
  • Assistant elementary school principal on a 205-day contract: $123,918.
  • Associate high school principal: $152,470.
  • Assistant high school principal: $146,755.
  • Technology director: $145,743.
  • Middle school dean on a 12-month contract: $143,718.
  • Middle school dean on a 205-day contract: $123,918.
  • Assistant elementary school principal: $134,934.
  • Special education director: $165,488.
  • Assistant special education director: $145,237.
  • Athletic director: $123,918.
  • Preschool director: $141,693.

In addition, administrators with either a Ph.D. or Ed.D. receive an annual $1,000 stipend, according to the contract.
