Copper gutters stolen

There was a rash of gutter thefts over two days last week.

A copper downspout was reported stolen from a Grumman Hill Road home at 10:16 a.m. on Dec. 5.

The same day, at 8:41 p.m., gutters worth about $500 were stolen from an East Meadow Road home. A residential video surveillance system showed a figure outside the home at 2:15 a.m.

About 25 feet of copper downspouts was taken from a West Meadow Road home at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 6.

Scrap metal prices for copper range from $2.60 to $3.10 per pound, depending on the type of copper.

Wilton police Capt. John Lynch recommends homeowners consider neighborhood watch programs and installing surveillance and security systems.
