Wilton Police Feb. 23 arrested a second suspect in the Oct. 18, 2017, larceny of more than $21,000 worth of jewelry from Campus Jewelers at 5 River Road.
Erika Santa, 32, was arrested Feb. 14 by the New York Police Department and members of the Nassau County Police Department near her home in Jamaica, N.Y., as a fugitive from justice on a warrant obtained by the Wilton Police Department for her involvement in the case.
After waiving extradition, Santa was turned over to Wilton detectives on Feb. 23 and charged with first degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first degree larceny. She was released on $100,000 bond with a court date of March 5.
After a lengthy investigation and with the assistance of the New York City Police Department, Nassau County Police Department, and the FBI in New York City, Wilton Police were able to identify the suspects and arrest warrants were obtained for all four.
In late January, the 32-year-old suspect’s mother, Yolanda Santa, 56, of Ridgewood, N.Y., was also arrested and charged with first degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first degree larceny.
The case involved three women and one man. Police said the three women distracted the two salespersons while the man stole jewelry from behind the counter and put it in a brown paper shopping bag he was carrying. The suspects then purchased an item with cash, then all four suspects left the store with the stolen jewelry totaling over $21,000. None of the jewelry was recovered.
Two more arrests are expected in this case.
