Santa Claus will make his annual visit to Wilton Center during the town’s Holiday Stroll on Friday, Dec. 7, beginning at 4. It’s an evening to celebrate the holidays, get a photo of the kids with Santa, enjoy seasonal conviviality, and shop local.

Due to the Jewish holiday’s early arrival this year, both Hanukkah and Christmas will be celebrated, beginning with the lighting of the giant menorah on the town green, marking the sixth night of the eight-night event.

Lights on the town Christmas tree will be lit at 5, followed by Santa’s arrival. He will visit with children in the gazebo where they can share their holiday wishes and receive a treat.

Throughout the evening children of all ages may join in holiday crafts including painting nut-free cookies with The Painted Cookie and revelers may enjoy music provided by the Wilton High School band and holiday carolers.

Stores, restaurants and businesses will be open throughout the downtown area for shopping and socializing. Wilton Library’s fireplace will offer an opportunity to warm up and enjoy refreshments while browsing the holiday book sale and Firing Circuits art exhibition. Halstead Real Estate at 21 River Road invites all to drop by its open house for a buffet of hors d’oeuvres, music and an exhibition of watercolors by artist Laura Wilk from 5:30 to 7:30.

Down at that end of Wilton Center, the Wilton Kiwanis Club will sponsor a marshmallow roast at Schenck’s Island, where people may enjoy hot chocolate and roasted sweets by the campfire.

The Holiday Stroll is a rain or shine event. In case of rain, Santa will hold court in the library from 5 to 7. The stroll is presented by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce, Wilton Kiwanis and the town of Wilton. Information: wiltonchamber.com or wiltonct.org.
