The blues

As part of an American musical trilogy, Chris Merwin will focus on the blues on Friday, Feb. 9, at 11, in the senior center lounge.

This program delves into the delta blues, which originated in the Mississippi delta region and is one of the earliest forms of blues going back to the turn of the last century. Along with country music, it is the precursor to jazz, rock-n-roll, and pop music. Eventually the blues and country musicians got together, made friends, and taught each other their music, giving birth to country blues, a fusion of the two styles. Country blues is also featured in this show.

Coming up: country music on March 16 and gospel, bluegrass, and folk on April 13.
