Chou Chou, a women’s clothing, handbag and shoes store that has operated out of Wilton Center on River Road nearly 20 years, is leaving town for a smaller location.
A worker at the store confirmed Jan. 11 what a big sign out front had already said: the store is having a moving sale.
The store will be relocating to another town in Fairfield County, the worker said, but the arrangements are not finalized so no further information is available.
“Our business has been great but we want a smaller setting,” said Kate Senter, daughter of the owner, the buyer for the store. The lease is up and it’s a good time, the right move for the family, she said.
The loss of Chou Chou is one more for the downtown retail community to absorb. Empty storefronts can be found all along River Road.
The departure won’t hurt one business next door though. The Town Green Tailor shop, whose motto posted outside is “support local business,” has plenty of longtime customers to keep it busy with alterations and custom tailoring, a worker said.
“We’ve been here more than 20 years,” said M.J. Song, a worker at the shop.
