Letter carriers in Wilton are delivering grocery bags and suggested shopping lists to their postal customers this week in advance of the Wilton Postal Food Drive on Saturday, Nov. 18.
The food will be distributed by Person-to-Person (P2P) through its food pantry in Norwalk. According to the organization, 10% of people living in Fairfield County struggle with food insecurity, including more than 14% of children.
“The P2P Food Pantry is a critical safety net for our neighbors in Wilton, Westport, Weston and Norwalk,” the organization said in a press release.
People are encouraged to leave a bag of non-perishable groceries at their mailbox this Saturday morning or drop it off at the post office on Hubbard Road.
“P2P is promoting healthy eating habits, so we encourage you to donate items that are low in sodium, no-salt added, unsweetened, no-sugar added and made from whole grains,” the organization said.
Person-to-Person provides low-income individuals and families in lower Fairfield County with basic emergency services. Information: p2pHelps.org.
