Squitieri helps CBC boat take gold at San Diego Fall Classic regatta

Lauren Squitieri of Wilton was part of the Connecticut Boat Club 4+ varsity boat that won the gold medal in the Junior Women’s Varsity 5K race last weekend at the prestigious San Diego Fall Classic, a US Rowing-sponsored regatta.

The CBC boat dominated the race course and finished strong, 32 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, San Diego Crew.

Also part of the winning crew were Katerina Kern of Greenwich, Grace Collins of Ridgefield, Julia Cornacchia of Darien and Sophie Perez (coxswain) of Greenwich.

Squitieri, a senior at Wilton High School, has been rowing for CBC for the past five years and has just finished up a strong fall season.

At the Head of the Housatonic regatta at Indian Well State Park in Shelton last month, she was part of the Varsity 4 boat the won silver, along with Perez, Collins, Cornacchia and Kaitlyn Kynast of Ridgefield.

CBC rowers also competed at the Head of the Fish Regatta, hosted by the Saratoga (N.Y.) Rowing Association in the final weekend of October.

In the Junior Varsity 4+ race, CBC won the gold with the team of Squitieri, Perez, Kynast and Collins. CBC also took home the silver medal in the Junior Varsity 8+ with the team of Squitieri, Perez, Kynast, Cornacchia, Collins, Julia Abbruzzese (Darien), Olivia Luther (Fairfield), Casey Batson (Darien) and Kat Kern (Greenwich).

In the Junior Novice 8+ race, Eleanor Imrie of Wilton helped the CBC novice team win the gold medal, along with Colleen Visnic (coxswain) of Branford, Paige Pucel of Ridgefield, Emma Peelle of Rowayton, Heidi Jacobson of Greenwich, Jenna Macrae of New Canaan, Emily Richards of Darien, Bridget Galloway of Ridgefield and Flynn Woodring of Darien.

In early October, at the Head of the Riverfront Regatta in Hartford, the CBC Varsity 8 boat won the bronze with the team of Squitieri, Perez, Kynast, Cornacchia, Collins, Abbruzzese, Luther, Batson and Kern.

Squitieri also helped the Varsity 4 boat win the bronze, along with Perez, Kynast, Cornacchia and Collins.

Lelah Conway of Wilton was part of the CBC Junior Varsity 8 that won the gold medal, along with Cece Challe of New Canaan (coxswain), Ella Petreski of Pound Ridge, N.Y., Lily O’Sullivan of Purchase, N.Y., Rachel Dalton of Branford, Catherine Garrett of Darien, Clara Geffs of Riverside, Jenna Macrae of New Canaan and Heidi Jacobson of Greenwich.

In the Junior Novice 8 race, Imrie was part of another gold medal effort, along with Visnic, Pucel, Peelle, Jacobson, Macrae, Richards, Woodring and Gigi Skolds (Darien).

Connecticut Boat Club, a high performance girls youth (middle school and high school) rowing club and women’s masters program, is based on the Norwalk River in Norwalk.
