Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County is seeking caring and sensitive individuals from Wilton to serve as hospice volunteers. Those who are interested may register to participate in a five-session hospice volunteer training course beginning Feb. 25 and continuing through March 1. Training will be held from 9:30 until 2:30 at the agency offices in Suite 114 at the Health and Wellness Center of Norwalk Hospital at i.park, 761 Main Avenue (Route 7) on the Norwalk /Wilton town line.
Hospice volunteers visit terminally ill patients and their families and provide them with emotional support, respite care and companionship. In training, hospice volunteers develop the skills necessary to work with patients and families and are provided with ongoing support.
“Hospice volunteers play a vital role in supporting our hospice patients and their families and are an integral part of the hospice care team,” said Chris Urpin, volunteer coordinator for the nursing agency. “The team works together to help patients live their last days in comfort with peace, dignity and grace.
“Hospice volunteers also work closely with grieving families to help them through the bereavement process,” she added. “It is gratifying to know that you are truly needed and that you have made a meaningful difference in someone’s life.”
