Wilton boys hoop team beats Darien, clinches FCIAC berth

The Wilton High boys basketball team clinched a berth in the FCIAC playoffs with a 73-56 victory over Darien on Monday night in Darien.

The Warriors, who improved to 12-7 overall and 10-7 in the FCIAC, are currently in the eighth and final conference playoff spot, but could move up to seventh or sixth depending on the outcomes of Wednesday night’s final regular-season games.

“Give the kids credit; they deserve it,” said first-year Wilton head coach Joel Geriak. “They set the goal at the beginning of the season and they worked hard all season long and they did it.”

Four players scored in double figures for Wilton in the win over Darien. Max Maudsley led the way with 14 points, and Weston Wilbur, Eric Houska and Olandi LeGrand added 13 points apiece.

Matt Shifrin added seven points, six rebounds and four assists for Wilton, which led 40-27 at halftime.

The Warriors, who qualified for the FCIAC playoffs for the first time since 2000, hit eight three-pointers in the game.

The conference playoffs open Saturday with four quarterfinal games at Fairfield Ludlowe.
