Mary D. Zdinak, 86

Mary D. Zdinak, 86, beloved wife of William (deceased) and mother of seven, died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 10, in Greenwich, CT from complications due to COPD.

Born Mary Jean Donovan on Jan. 12, 1927 in Staten Island, N.Y., she was the second of four children and only daughter of Dr. Florence T. Donovan and Jeanette Keenan Donovan. Mary attended Our Lady of Good Counsel grammar school and Curtis HS in Staten Island. At the height of WWII she enrolled at the College of New Rochelle, earning a degree in English in 1948.

After a series of office jobs in Manhattan Mary met and married advertising artist and Weirton, W.V. native William Zdinak in 1951. The couple moved to Wilton, CT, in 1955. Mary was an avid bridge player, dog lover, gardener and swimmer. A devout, lifelong Roman Catholic, Mary served as President of the Rosary Society at Our Lady of Fatima parish.

In 1975 the family moved to Old Greenwich, CT. Mary was widowed in 1993, after which she worked in the rectory at St. Catherine of Siena parish and was awarded the Saint Augustine Medal of Service.

She is survived by her seven children: Mary Anne Zdinak of Newtown, CT; Zackery Mark Zdinak of Flagstaff, AZ; Alan Zdinak of New York, NY; William Zdinak of Centennial, CO; Andrea Andretta of Milford, CT; Jonathan Zdinak of Greenwich, CT; Matthew Zdinak of Ferndale, MI. Also her four grandchildren, Callie Rose Ryan of Baltimore, MD; William, Ashley and Taid Zdinak of Centennial, CO, and her brother Timothy Florence Donovan of Westfield, N.J. and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Riverside, CT. Calling hours begin at 9:15 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Internment to follow immediately at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
