Andrew Sakamoto placed fourth at the Class L state wrestling championships, held on Friday and Saturday at Bristol Central High School.
The Wilton High junior qualified for next week’s State Open.
Sakamoto, the fifth seed, reached the semifinals with two wins, an 8-5 decision over Brandon Poirier of Bristol Central and 9-1 major decision over Paul Petrowski of Maloney, before falling by decision, 5-0, to Ryan Rigby of Farmington, the top seed and eventual champ.
He won a 4-2 overtime decision over Nick Civitello of Pomperaug in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match, he lost a 3-0 decision to second-seeded Kenny Philipson of New Canaan.
Sakamoto improved his season record to 27-15.
