Twice delayed, the FCIAC wrestling tournament has now met a more fatal twist.
Organizers opted to call off the tournament Sunday night after learning that some schools would be closed again on Monday due to the aftermath of the weekend’s major snowstorm and the expected arrival of freezing rain Monday morning.
“With several schools expected to be closed on Monday, the remaining option for the conference was to hold the tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday,” the FCIAC said in a post on its website. “That change would have left little time for teams to prepare for the CIAC class tournaments, which begin on Friday, Feb. 15, so the decision was made to cancel the league championships.”
Danbury was declared champion for the 26th time in 27 years with Fairfield Warde as runner-up, based on regular season standings.
