Property owners who wish to dispute the assessed value of their property — real and/or personal — may file a petition with the Board of Assessment Appeals. In order to be granted a hearing, petitions must be filed on or before Wednesday, Feb. 20. They must be filed in the assessors office by 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 20.
The board will then meet to hear appeals and make determinations.
Petitioners will be notified by the board of the specific date, time and place of their hearing.
Pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes, the Board of Assessment Appeals cannot hear appeals for petitions filed after Feb. 20, 2013. If a petition is postmarked Feb. 20, 2013 but received by the assessor’s office on Thursday, Feb. 21, or later the Board of Assessment Appeals will not grant a hearing. Petitions are available in the assessor’s office between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., beginning today.
